Overview

Breda, a lovely city in the southern Netherlands, has a population of around 185,000. Breda, known for its rich history and strong cultural landscape, is home to both Avans University of Applied Sciences and Breda University of Applied Sciences. The city combines ancient landmarks like the Grote Kerk and the Castle of Breda with modern conveniences. Breda's vibrant city centre, lush parks, and several festivals provide students with a lively and welcoming environment, making it an excellent choice for both study and recreation.

Breda, located in the southern Netherlands, is a city rich in history and culture. Breda is known for its lovely historic centre and stunning architecture, which includes the Grote Kerk and the Castle of Breda. The city's energetic environment is enhanced by its numerous cafes, festivals, and a thriving student population at Breda University of Applied Sciences. Breda's strategic location and rich history, ranging from its participation in the Eighty Years' War to its thriving modern economy, make it an intriguing blend of old and new.
 

Historical Landmarks

Grote Kerk Breda

The Grote Kerk, or Church of Our Lady, is a Gothic-style church that dates back to the 13th century. Its towering spire and intricate architecture make it one of Breda’s most iconic landmarks.

Castle of Breda

Built in the 12th century, the Castle of Breda has been a significant military and political site. It now houses the Royal Military Academy and features beautifully landscaped gardens open to the public.

Begijnhof

The Begijnhof, founded in the 13th century, is a serene courtyard that once housed a community of Beguines (religious women). It is one of the oldest parts of Breda and offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city.

S.V Intariania is the first international student association from Avans University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. They aim to be a community and resource for all international students across Avans campuses.

Breda Internationals

Breda Internationals' mission is to bring all internationals/expats together on a platform that helps them build up their new life in Breda. They do this by organising many events hosted at many different locations with various types of partners.

Chassé Theatre

With three theater halls and cinema halls, Chassé Theater, designed by professor Herman Hertzberger , is the largest cultural stage in the South-West of the Netherlands. Every year, around 350,000 visitors from Breda and its surroundings attend performances from the wide range of theater and films on offer.

Mooiwerk Breda

Mooiwerk inspires people who want to do volunteer work in Breda. They provide advice to organisations and sports clubs. And they organise workshops and meetings for existing volunteers. So that they can continue to develop themselves. Every Breda resident is a fan of volunteer work!
