Overview

Leiden, known for its excellent university founded in 1575, is a city steeped in history and intellectual legacy. The scenic canals, institutions such as the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, and lovely old town all show a rich history. Rembrandt was born in Leiden, which is also a centre for science and discovery, creating a dynamic atmosphere in which the past and present coexist peacefully.

Pieterskerk

Pieterskerk, founded in the 12th century, is a prominent Gothic church renowned for its historical significance and stunning architecture. It is the final resting place of prominent persons like the painter Jan Steen.

Hortus Botanicus

Established in 1590, the Hortus Botanicus is one of the world's oldest botanical gardens. It was important in plant science research and is home to uncommon and exotic species.

Rijksmuseum van Oudheden

The National Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden) displays archaeological artefacts from Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. It was founded in 1818 and has an extensive collection of historical artefacts.

ESN Leiden

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a non-profit international student organisation. Their mission is to represent international students, thus providing opportunities for cultural understanding and self-development under the principle of Students Helping Students.

AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. They are a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Leiden United is now one of the largest foreign student associations in Leiden, focusing on integration at Leiden University. They offer locations, activities, and opportunities for international students to engage with local students, as well as Dutch students to make friends with peers from all over the globe.

Leiden Bio Science Park

LBSP is the biggest LSH cluster in the Netherlands. Over the last 39 years, they have established a significant global presence. With creative firms, research institutes, academics, and start-ups on its premises, the LBSP Foundation is dedicated to developing the future.

Leiden Film Festival

The Forum, located in the centre of Groningen, is available seven days a week for you to dream away while watching a movie, participate in a talk show, see an exhibition, borrow materials, open your laptop, take a course, or simply grab a newspaper and croissant.

S.A. Augustinus

L.V.V.S. Augustinus is one of the Netherlands' major student associations. Its members meet once a week for beverages. The Association promotes the development of close ties among students. By becoming involved in numerous committees, or by joining an Augustinian sports team or the Augustinian Theatre. An Augustinian makes the most of his or her student time thanks to Augustine's many structures!
