DigiD
Living and studying in the Netherlands entails managing a wide range of online services, from applying for housing benefits to filing tax reports. DigiD is a secure online identification system used in the Netherlands. It acts similarly to a digital passport, allowing you to prove your identity and access a variety of government and private organisation websites. Most of the times, you will be using it to log into portals and websites for public services in The Netherlands.

Potential issues and solutions
To register for a DigiD account, you are required to have a BSN. If you do not have a BSN number yet, apply for one before registering for your DigiD.

To successfully complete the registration, it is recommended to have a Dutch phone number. This will help you with receiving verification codes when logging into public service websites which often require 2FA. You can always use a foreign number when registering for your DigiD but authentication is not possible. Be sure to update your phone number on DigiD when you have settled in The Netherlands!

In the event that you lose your activation code, be sure to contact the help desk as soon as possible so that you do not lose access to your account.
