Local Cuisine
Indulging in local cuisine while studying in the Netherlands is a lovely way to immerse yourself in Dutch culture. The Dutch have a distinct and hearty cuisine culture with a wide range of delicacies that overseas students should taste while in the country. Here's a sample of what's to come.
Breakfast
Hagelslag: Begin your day with a traditional Dutch breakfast of hagelslag, chocolate or fruit-flavored sprinkles, spread over buttered toast.
Poffertjes: These small, fluffy pancakes are a breakfast favourite that are typically served with powdered sugar and butter.

Lunch
Broodje Kroket: A Dutch croquette sandwich stuffed with beef or veal ragout and deep-fried till crispy.
Uitsmijter: A hearty noon meal, this open-faced sandwich is topped with fried eggs, gammon and cheese.

Dinner
Stamppot: A cosy dish made of mashed potatoes and vegetables like as kale or sauerkraut, typically accompanied with smoked sausage.
Erwtensoep: Dutch split pea soup, a hearty dish frequently served with pieces of rye bread topped with bacon and cheese.

Pannenkoekenboot
In one of the larger cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc.), board a pancake boat and enjoy a selection of sweet and savoury pancakes while sailing the city's lovely canals. It's a wonderful and picturesque way to eat.

FEBO
Visit a Febo for a truly Dutch fast-food experience. A wall of coin-operated vending machines sells foods such as krokets, frikandels, and other deep-fried pleasures.

Rijsttafel at an Indonesian Restaurant
The Netherlands has a long history with Indonesia, and you may sample a Rijsttafel, an Indonesian rice table, at a number of eateries. It's a feast of various foods that reflect the two countries' rich culinary traditions.

Haringhappen
Try the classic Dutch dish of raw herring with onions and pickles. Haringhappen stands can be seen in towns and coastal areas.
